- Press Forward.
- Let go of every direction (neutral).
- Press Forward.
- Let go of every direction (neutral).
- Press Forward.
- Keep Forward held and press Triangle + Circle (2+4) one frame later.
Watch it slowed down, then press Try it and do it yourself with a controller or your keyboard (A, S, D and Space, or the arrow keys). Timing is not frame-accurate. The animation shows the order of presses; check exact timing in your game's training mode. The animation assumes the Capcom/Neutral SOCD mode (Left + Right = Neutral, Up + Down = Neutral), which is how the MICRO and SWORL ship. Game and character names belong to their owners.
Pro notes: Instant While Running
Notation f, n, f, n, f, (1 frame) f + attack. Directions are written for a character facing right.
Keys you press vs what the game reads
Top row: the buttons you hold. Bottom row: the direction the game receives. No opposing directions are held together in this input, so every SOCD mode reads it the same way; diagonals are two keys read as one direction.
Frame and timing notes
- Wavu's point-blank example: f on frame 13, f+attack on frame 14. Earlier gives f,F+2; later gives f+2 (iWR fails only at point-blank).
- King's while-running 2+4 is the common example; some iWR moves have their own tighter windows. Check in training mode with input display on.
Leverless tips for the Instant While Running
The finger map used here: ring finger on Back, middle finger on Down, index finger on Forward, right thumb on Up.
- Three Forward taps, lifting fully between each. The attack is a separate press right after the third tap, not with it.
- If you press the attack on the same frame as the third Forward you get f,F+2 instead; two frames late at point-blank gives f+2. At longer range the timing is lenient.
- Use two fingers on Forward to tap faster, as with the double-tap dash.
