- Hold Back to charge.
- Press Forward with Square (Punch).
Watch it slowed down, then press Try it and do it yourself with a controller or your keyboard (A, S, D and Space, or the arrow keys). Timing is not frame-accurate. The animation shows the order of presses; check exact timing in your game's training mode. The animation assumes the Capcom/Neutral SOCD mode (Left + Right = Neutral, Up + Down = Neutral), which is how the MICRO and SWORL ship. Game and character names belong to their owners.
Pro notes: Sonic Boom
Notation [4] 6 + P. Directions are written for a character facing right.
Keys you press vs what the game reads
Top row: the buttons you hold. Bottom row: the direction the game receives. No opposing directions are held together in this input, so every SOCD mode reads it the same way; diagonals are two keys read as one direction.
Frame and timing notes
- SuperCombo (SF6 Guile): 45f charge time, and the charge lasts up to 10f after Back is released, so lift Back and press Forward + P inside that window.
- Perfect Sonic Boom: press Forward and Punch together within a 3-frame window. Guile shouts PERFECT, the LP version does 600 instead of 550 and is +4 on hit instead of +3. On leverless press the index finger and the punch as one key.
- Back + Forward held together reads as neutral in Capcom/Neutral and Up priority modes, so the Forward tap must come as Back lifts.
Leverless tips for the Sonic Boom
The finger map used here: ring finger on Back, middle finger on Down, index finger on Forward, right thumb on Up.
- Charge by holding Back with your ring finger. Down-Back charges too, so you can crouch-block while you wait.
- Hold the charge for a beat before you tap Forward. Tapping too early is the most common miss.
- Lift Back as your index finger hits Forward. On leverless, Back and Forward held together read as neutral and eat the input.
